Airwaves BMW speedster Steven Kane has kicked off a new season of HiQ champagne moments in style, by squeezing past Fabrizio Giovanardi to bring home the bubbly from Thruxton.
The popular speedster, who overcame mechanical difficulties and ill-health, produced a memorable drive in race three which captured the imaginations of hundreds of BTCC fans.
It is the second time Kane has won a HiQ champagne moment, after scooping the accolade at Snetterton back in 2008.
Steven polled 32 per cent of the votes, beating Fabrizio Giovanardi (26 per cent) and Paul O’ Neill (20 per cent).
BTCC fan Fiona Anderson was picked at random to win a bottle of champagne and she will now win a pair of tickets to a future BTCC race of her choice.
Steven said: “To win the first champagne moment award on my first race back in the BTCC means so much to me. It is great to know that so many fans voted for me – the award will live long in the memory.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the driver’s seat at Rockingham and this award has really given me the confidence to race for the top results. Let’s just hope I don’t have the flu next time!”
All spectators are invited to log onto HiQ’s official website, http://www.hiqonline.co.uk/ to vote for their star performer from the next round of racing, at Rockingham on April 25.
The man that receives the most plaudits from the round of racing will be crowned with HiQ’s Champagne Moment award and presented with a magnum of bubbly before the next race.
One lucky fan who has logged his or her details onto the website will be picked at random to present the prize to the driver and complimentary race tickets will also be provided, along with a grid walk of the track before one of the races.
HiQ’s marketing manager Geraldine McGovern said: “We are delighted for Steven and his team. He is certainly a worthy winner, and we all thought he stood a great chance for that stunning drive in race three.”
