Unite general secretary sees a future burning bright at Baxi

The general secretary of Unite has been presented with a compelling manufacturing success story after visiting Baxi’s production facilities in Preston.

Baxi Group’s manufacturing director Chris Tyrer outlined the future of heating services to Derek Simpson, who was left in no doubt about the company’s ongoing exploits and achievements.

The trade unionist, who made a special visit to the Lancashire factory on Thursday, was told how the Preston site was now outperforming European factories.

Chris said: “It was great to welcome Mr Simpson and show him around our Preston factory.

“We have a strong, compelling story to tell about our micro-combined heat and power technology, which has been developed and manufactured here for the rest of Europe.”

Mr Simpson was told about Baxi’s micro-CHP process, which generates both electricity and heat from the same source close to where it is to be used.

The Baxi Ecogen boiler provides highly efficient heating and hot water for the home and also generates low cost, low carbon electricity in the process.

Mr Simpson said that Baxi Group should be congratulated for their innovation, dedication and leadership in the heating industry, particularly when so much of the UK’s industry was going in the other direction.

Chris added: “We are bucking the trend at Baxi. We should all be encouraged to buy products made in the UK and we are offering the Great British public a reason to do this.

“Derek was very impressed with our micro-CHP technology and said he would be interested in an Ecogen boiler himself, if he hadn’t just had a Potterton combi installed!”
