Go Fishing Show set to reel in thousands of visitors

This July, Staffordshire is set to welcome back the fishing event of the year, as the Go Fishing Show returns to Cudmore Fisheries.

The action packed weekend will not only host the Fish O’Mania and Masters competition, but visitors will also get the opprtunity to become part of a world record attempt.

Last year the show boasted visitor figures of 7,500 and this year is set to be bigger and better, as there will be plenty of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy as well as experienced anglers.

The Go Fishing Show runs for two days, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July, and will give fishing enthusiasts the chance to put their questions to TV fishing celebrities such as John Wilson, Alan Scotthorne, Matt Hayes and four times world champion Bob Nudd. Bob will also reveal the tactics that made him a house hold name in his demonstration.

The weekend event ‘casts off’ on Saturday with the Fish O’mania grand final, which is televised on Sky Sports. Visitors will witness fisherman competing for first place with the winner taking home a prize fund of £25,000.

On Sunday the Go Fishing Show will attempt to get into the record books by putting on the biggest fishing coaching session ever staged. As well as the chance to be part of a world record, the coaching session will give visitors the chance to find out how to improve their own fishing skills.

Throughout the weekend, in the Carp Zone, the big names in fishing will reveal the secrets behind getting more bites ensuring you should never have to endure another session at the side of the lake or riverbank without a single bite.

After passing by the Angling Times’ Best of Britain Lake, where gear testers Mark Swayer and Jonathan Taylor will put the latest tackle and gear through its paces, you can put your new skills to the test in the Spod Casting Challenge where a leader board will track the top anglers at the show.

Britain’s favourite TV fishing duo, Matt Hayes and Mark Brown, will go head to head as they demonstrate fly fishing tactics. The pressure will be on to see who can come out on top as the duo show you how much fun fly tackle can be.

Kids under 15 go free on Sunday
And if all of the above is not enough to get you to bite the bait then the offer of free tickets for children on Sunday will. All children under the age of 15 can attend the show for free (when accompanied by an adult). Even kids who aren’t avid anglers will have a great day out enjoying the fun fair and trying their hand at extreme sports such as rock climbing.

The show will also give visitors the opportunity to walk away with prizes from The Go Fishing Show ‘Win Zone’. So, why not try your luck on the Angling Lottery or the Reel of Fortune!

Like any show, the event would not complete without a bit of retail therapy. The Retail Zone will showcase the latest still and river water tackle from the world’s best brands such as Shakespeare and Fishing Republic.

FIRST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS AT FARM SHOP

To celebrate the 1st Birthday of the Granary Farm Shop & Art Gallery, Weston Park will open its Park and Gardens on Easter Saturday, 3rd April, for just £1 per person.

Since it opened, the farm shop and art gallery has welcomed thousands of shoppers seeking out the very best in locally produced food and drink. Visitors to the gallery have been able to purchase some remarkable works by acclaimed artists during the monthly selling exhibitions.

To celebrate the day, the stately home on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border has a range of activities to suit all ages.

Suppliers to the farm shop will be talking about their produce and be offering samples of their delicious products, the Park and Gardens will be open at a special rate of £1 per person and children can follow the Easter Chick Trail in the stately home.

The art gallery will welcome Colin Carruthers, acclaimed landscape artist, for a selling exhibition of his most recent works. Now based in the West Midlands, Colin travels widely to capture the beauty of the British Isles.

Children can run wild in the Adventure Playground, take a ride on the Miniature Railway and explore the woodland walks, lakes and follies.

The Park and Gardens open from 10.30am until 6pm (last admission 4.30pm). Entry is £1.00 per person, children under four are free of charge.

The House opens from 1pm – 5pm (last admission 4.30pm) Entry is £2.00 per person, children under 4 are free of charge.

Rides on the Miniature Railway are £2.00 for adults, £1.50 for children (2-14 years) and £1.50 senior citizens.

The Granary Farm Shop and Art Gallery is open daily and free to enter.

MIDLANDS BUTCHER REARS PARTNERSHIP WITH STATELY HOME

A West Midlands butcher is expanding its business as it embarks on a partnership with a stately home’s Granary Farm Shop.
Robinsons of Tettenhall, butchers for over 100 years, will be operating the Butchery at Weston Park’s recently launched, Granary Farm Shop.

The family butcher, located in Wolverhampton, has developed a renowned reputation for supplying the finest quality fresh meats from locally sourced farmers.

Established in 1905, Robinsons has continually invested in its business to ensure premium quality produce and unrivalled customer service. Its traditional butchery techniques and practices have created award winning sausages and black pudding, dry-cured bacon and homemade pork pies.

Speaking of the expansion Robinsons owner, Steve Robinson, said: “We are very excited to be expanding our business and believe Weston Park’s Granary Farm Shop is the ideal venue to showcase our produce to a wider audience.”

To launch the joint partnership, Weston Park and Robinsons hosted a sausage sizzle evening allowing customers to sample the award winning products for themselves.

Welcoming the Robinsons team Weston Park’s chief executive, Colin Sweeney said: “We are delighted to welcome Steve and his team to the Granary Farm Shop. Their expertise and passion will help to position the Granary as the place to shop for the regions best local produce.”

The Granary Farm Shop is located in the former 1767 Granary building on the Weston Park estate. The building has been sympathetically restored with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands.

The total award, of just over one million pounds, was granted on the basis of repairing and restoring the North face of the listed building.

The Shop also features locally sourced food and drinks from regional suppliers and sells produce such as seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, local beers and bakery products.
